I've been in technology hell....

Well, I'm sure all of you (10) of my readers have been wondering where the heck I have been. In short, I have been in technology hell. I got a new computer (yay!) which I hooked up on Tuesday afternoon and started transferring data, etc. I hooked up the modem to my new computer and had major problems. I could get online but only for about 10 seconds at a time and then it would drop me like a bad habit. My new computer has windows vista instead of xp which I have decided is from the devil. My modem seemed incompatible with it and when I called the cable company the customer service rep said "oh, we don't support windows vista." I said something like "are you crazy...every new computer comes with windows vista?" and she said "oh, they do........well maybe I don't know what I'm talking about...let me transfer you to someone who can help you." I was then transferred to someone in the Philippines who tried to help and I thought he had but realized a few short minutes later that he had not. I called back to schedule a tech coming out the following day. He came, looked it over and said that there was some "stuff" that needed to be fixed outside. He then had to schedule someone to come for that. They were supposed to come the next day.....next day no one came. Called. They said oh we have you scheduled but not until Saturday (this was Thursday). I was pretty p.o.'d to say the least. So today I anxiously awaited the cable guy to come fix my problem. By 1 I hadn't seen anyone so I called. I was told there was no appt. scheduled today but that he came yesterday. I said "well, it's still not working" and they had to send someone out again today. The guy that came out today was the same one who was here on Wednesday and after hooking our modem up to two different computers told me that the problem was my new PC because the modem worked fine with the other computers. So, I called Dell. Actually, I called India. The guy I talked to (Vijay) tried to help and we thought it was fixed for a while but of course, 3 minutes after getting off the phone with him, the problem reared it's ugly head again. After almost being in tears and Shaun looking at me like I was crazy, I called Dell again. Praise the good Lord for Dilip, the next customer service rep that I talked to. He took over my computer (that is so weird but easy) and he deleted some programs that "shouldn't be on the computer" and installed some new drivers and voila.....problem fixed. Can I just say that Dilip is my new best friend. I got his personal extension for next time I have a problem and spoke to his supervisor to tell him how great he was. 5 days later....I'm back. It has been a stressful week. Not just because of the computer problems but some other stuff going on that I will save for another post. The good news???? I've been so stressed and out of my mind that I'm pretty sure I'm barely eating and I am 10 lbs. in to my 20 lb. weight loss goal. I am not a person who eats when I get stressed. I did take the opportunity while I did not have internet to work on Julianne's slide show which is about half way done. Her birthday is less than two weeks away and I have a party here, a party in Cali, family coming to visit, taxes to do, and a nervous breakdown to have. I've missed you friends and have more posts coming probably daily now since I've been out for a week!

Glad you are back!! This internet thing has got me ADDICTED! We can sooo relate with talking with "India"....I thought I was going to come through the phone when we moved into our newly built home and the lady on the other end said a MILLION times (with the strongest accent)...."Maam is it working?"...."Maam is it working?" I finally raised my voice and said "I WILL TELL YOU WHEN IT IS WORKING OKAY!!". Wow!!

oh, so sorry about your horrid experience. and i always heard that dell had such good customer service...at least with laptops. my friend sent his back for them to fix(fed ex), and they sent him a temporary computer the next day until his was fixed. maybe they are cutting back on stuff, due to our stinky economy. well thank goodness for Dilip! Too funny that you know their names.

Try not to have a nervous breakdown, ok? That would make me sad.

So glad you're back! Computer stuff can be so frustrating. I used to think I was good at computers, but either I'm getting old, or stuff is just advancing so much that I no longer know what I'm doing. I do have to say that I love my Mac and have had good customer service from the Apple people. I don't think we'll be going back to PC anytime soon.

Can't wait for more posts!

ooh, so frustrating. I'm so glad it's all fixed now. I have to say that I would get a whole lot more done if my internet was broken... =) but, not if I was on the phone for hours trying to get it fixed. Glad you're back!
