Mexico - Day 2

Day 2 in Mexico was the best! We had an amazing adventure that put me just a bit outside of my comfort zone. We wanted to do a zip line tour but our tour booker dude mentioned another one that included zip lining, repelling, and riding mules...for about the same price. So we said why not. We didn't really know what to expect but knew it would be fun. We started out that afternoon at the Vallarta Adventures office waiting to see what was in store for us. Here we are goofing off while we were waiting.

We were escorted down to a boat that would take us over to the other side of Puerto Vallarta. Good thing it was a speed boat because boats and I do not get along (stay tuned for day 3). Here I am just as we were pulling out of the harbor. Take special note of this picture because I have one from day 3 that you will see soon of me also holding onto a pole on a boat but in a very different way:

Me and my hunky man

After our 20 minute boat ride over to the other side, we walked up the beach to catch our ride to our destination Then we caught our ride...which was this!It had a Mercedes symbol on the front but I'm not sure it was a Mercedes. It felt like riding on the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland. I was waiting for the giant boulder to come down this road that we were traveling on:

It was a bit bumpy but we were having fun on our jeep ride!
We got to our destination all in one piece, and got geared up for our adventure. Attractive, no? Uh, not comfortable either.

We had to leave our cameras behind because we were told "you will get wet". Thank goodness that along with our 5 guides, a photographer came along to capture images for us. Our adventure started with getting paired up with a mule and riding it up into the mountains. This was actually a lot more fun than I thought it would be. The only downside of this was that my mule liked to run and we were traveling up very bumpy trails. Note to self...next time, wear a sports bra!

I don't have any pictures of any of us on a mule but this is the mule wrangler and I'm sure our mules are in there somewhere!

After about a half hour mule ride up into the mountains, we started zipping and repelling our way down. It was a blast! Some parts were scary (for me it was the waterfall repel) but it is fun to conquer your fear of heights (and dying) and just have fun! Here are some of my favorite pictures from our adventure!

Shaun on the steep zip line. It was almost straight down!

Shaun on the free fall repel
That was fun!
Randi on the free fall repel Happy to be on the ground!
This is me on the zip line that plunged us into the water. Literally, we had to swim out and I now knew why they said "you will get wet". Everyone else on the tour brought a change of clothes but our tour booking dude failed to mention that. Oh well, it was fun!
Me on the free fall repel
This is my fake smile. I was glad to be at the bottom but soaking wet and freezing!!!!!

Shaun and I racing down a double zip line (I beat him but I'm pretty sure he let me win)
Here we are on the rope bridge. What you can't see is James on the other side of me jumping up and down to make it wobble. Love you James :)
Shaun and I got to do the waterfall repel together which made it a little easier...

and, at the bottom of that repel

It was an amazing adventure that lasted pretty much all day. From the boat ride, to the jeep ride, mules, zipping, repelling, and hiking we were pretty exhausted by the time it was over. We took a few moments to check out the pictures:
And then took a group shot of all of us after a day well spent:

We then boarded our jeeps again to return. We thought we were going down to the beach to catch the boat back but were told that the boat "had a flat tire" so that we were taking the jeep all the way back to the other side of Puerto Vallarta. We drove the highway on the coastline and it was really pretty. Then we drove through the city which was interesting to do in the jeep. The driver weaved in and out of traffic like we were on a motorcycle.
We were told it would take an hour to get back. It took almost 2. We saw some interesting things but were so tired of being on that jeep. We were very happy to get back to where our day had started and hop in a cab for the short 5 minute ride to our resort.

It was a fabulous day!

You are braver than me!! Looks like you had fun. And, um, how does a boat get a flat tire??

OMG, we did the exact same thing on our honeymoon, yellow hooptie truck and everything! We did not do much rappelling, though, mostly just zip-lining. I thought I'd hate it, but it was SO FUN.

Now, as for the boats, don't tell me you went deep sea fishing too!
