Swim lessons

Does this look like a girl who is ready for swim lessons or what? After I started taking her picture she said "wanna take pitcher with Cwear" She calls Claire Cwear...it's pretty adorable!
Apparently she thought the left was her better side...she had to switch
Julianne had never been in a pool until her first lesson yesterday. That sounds really weird to me since I grew up in California and spent nearly every summer in a pool. I wanted to take her last summer to a mommy and me swim class but I was puking all summer - have I mentioned pregnancy does not agree with me? And, you really only get about 3 months to swim here in Cleveland. It's cold by September. Yet another thing to add to the list of reasons why Cleveland does not rock (Drew Carey is a liar). Sorry, I'm getting off course here. Anyway, we took Julianne to her very first swim lesson yesterday. The lessons are for 1/2 hour every day for 2 weeks. I was expecting the worst. She loves the bathtub but I wasn't sure she would feel the same about the pool. This girl surprises me all the time and yesterday was no exception. She loved the pool! I was expecting a meltdown but the only one we had was when we had to leave. So here we go. And yes, I'm that mom that takes 500 pictures of her daughter's first swim lesson.
She started out by having the girls sit on a step in the pool. Julianne is the youngest in the class. It's her, a 3 year old and two 4 year old's (although she is taller than the 3 year old). She started off on the first step and slowly ventured down.

Slowly but surely....
Explaining the rules of the pool. I'm pretty sure Julianne didn't understand but at least she sat still and listened (school is helping)
She kept looking back at me and saying "Hiiiiiii"!
Venturing out to try some kicks
Holding on to the wall
her favorite thing to do is splash of course
There were a few moments of not paying attention to the teacher
She wasn't successful with kicking yet...just sticks her legs straight out but she smiles while doing it!
Getting a little bit of face in the water
Trying to push up to get out
Waiting her turn
She sat on the edge and just waited. Could it be that my girl is getting some patience?
Wall walking
Thinking about jumping off
Yay! She didn't completely jump but she started to and the teacher helped her the rest of the way
Claire was very excited to watch her sister swim. Or maybe not.
All in all it was very successful. She's going to be all set for our trip to California in a few weeks! Mimi and Papa's pool is going to get a lot of use while we're there.
And on a side note...what is with swimsuits not having built in diapers or maybe someone making a smaller swim diaper? I can't even fit her bikini bottom over the gigantic swim diaper. Actually, I probably could but it would look really silly. Are you just supposed to let the swim diaper hang out of the swimsuit. I don't understand it! Yet another reason to get her potty trained. We're making progress but I kind of want to pull my hair out (that's another post entirely).
And on another side note...excuse my blog, it's a hot mess right now. I am trying out blogger's new designer template and it's confusing. Holy huge header batman! Hopefully I can fix it soon.

How completely cute are these first swim lessons!!! You're right about swim diapers being positively monstrous!

So cute! Glad she likes the pool! Aidyn is a pool fanatic! We have a really great swimming vest for him... He is great with it, and I got it for him when he was 2. He has no problem in the pool! I still want him in swim lessons, but for hanging out at the pool its great, and lets him be more independent!

She looks so sweet at the pool! What a great outfit. I love how Claire is resting on the chair. Adorable. Your girls are going to love the water, I'm sure.

How sweet.

I want to put Natalie in swim lessons but she's shy and I worry she'll freak out if the teacher tries to touch her.

It is great that she loves the water! my kids are so terrified of water... they are 8 and 9 and JUST learning to swim... last year we conquered fears... this year they are swimming!! ;)

I just used to let my little ones swim in the diapers... sometimes my daughter would have a one piece on with the diaper hanging out!! ;) Oh ~ I used the cloth swim diaper... is that what you have??

I am getting my girls into lessons soon. How far apart in age are your daughters?
